SOUTHPORT — Avery Stutts’ single-game school record of 17 strikeouts in the pitcher’s circle helped the Scotland Fighting Scots softball team defeat the South Brunswick Cougars 1-0 in nonconference action on the road Monday.

Stutts finished allowing just three hits and no walks in her complete winning effort.

Scotland’s winning run happened in the fifth inning when Emily Sampson’s sacrifice fly allowed Marissa Smith to get home from third.

South Brunswick’s Kina Davis suffered the loss, allowing the one run by Smith and four hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks; at the plate, Davis had one hit for a double.

The win kept Scotland undefeated at 10-0, while the loss dropped South Brunswick to 11-3.
