    Brittany Roberts named among The Fayetteville Observer’s ‘40 Under 40’

    LAURINBURG — Laurinburg’s Brittany Roberts has been honored as a recipient of The Fayetteville Observer’s prestigious 40 Under 40 award, now in its 14th year.

    This accolade celebrates young professionals who excel in their careers and contribute significantly to their communities. Nominees must live or work in Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Robeson, Sampson or Scotland counties and be under 40 as of July 1, 2024.

    Roberts, 30, is currently an assistant principal at Asheboro High School.

    According to her nominator, Wendy Rich, Roberts was nominated because she is “exploring the recruitment and retention experiences of Black female principals in North Carolina as her research focus. Her dedication to addressing important educational issues is unparalleled for someone her age. She has extensive involvement with the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools, where she made a significant impact on both K-12 students and college students, demonstrating her commitment to.

    “As assistant superintendent in Asheboro City Schools, I am most proud of her service to our students and community as an assistant principal and as a head soccer coach. She has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our district through her leadership abilities both within educational institutions and in extracurricular activities.”

    Roberts obtained a Master of K-12 Physical Education and Health at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and a Master of School Administration from North Carolina State University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate from Fayetteville State University with an anticipated graduation in May 2025.

    Brittany is the daughter of Betty Roberts and has two brothers, Ronnie and Antoine Mackie.
