Mischa Johnson (U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division).

A pregnant newlywed went missing from the U.S. Army barracks she called home late last month in Hawaii . Now, her soldier husband has been arrested in connection with her disappearance.

Mischa Mabeline Kaalohilani Johnson, 19, was last seen on the night of July 31, inside her home on the Schofield Barracks in Oahu, according to the Army Criminal Investigation Division. She was reported missing the very next day, on Aug. 1.

On Monday, her 28-year-old husband was arrested.

“[A]n individual has been placed into military custody in the Mischa Johnson missing person case,” the Army’s 25th Infantry Division said in an updated press release about the case earlier this week. “Mischa Johnson’s husband, Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II, is currently in military pretrial confinement in Hawaii.”

The reason for Dewayne Johnson’s arrest, however, is unclear.

Authorities described the missing woman as 5 foot 2 and about 170 pounds, with a large dragon tattoo on her back. She is of Filipino descent and was six months pregnant when she vanished.

Despite the arrest of her husband, Army investigators say they “remain focused on locating Mischa, support to her family, and the safety and security of all personnel at U.S. Army Hawaii installations.”

There is a $10,000 reward for information about the case.

The latest development has shocked the presumed victim’s family — but they remain hopeful amid the husband’s arrest.

“She is a loving housewife, she’s an amazing sister,” Mischa Johnson’s sister told Honolulu-based ABC affiliate KITV . “In whatever condition she’s in we just want her to be home.”

Family members relayed the still-like-new status of the Johnson couple — they were married in November 2023.

“They were very affectionate towards each other. PDA levels like through the roof,” the missing woman’s sister continued. “I mean they were all over each other. It’s very concerning that he’s the prime suspect.”

According to Mischa Johnson’s sister, the couple did not exhibit any signs of marital discord.

The Army described the husband in the following terms:

PFC Johnson, from Frederick, Maryland, enlisted in the United States Army and attended one station unit training at Fort Moore, Georgia in November 2022. He was assigned to 25th Infantry Division in June of 2023 and serves as a Cavalry Scout (MOS 19D).

While Dewayne Johnson is being detained, that does not necessarily mean that he has been charged with a crime.

All of the missing woman’s personal property — including her wallet and cellular phone — were left at home when she disappeared, Mischa Johnson’s sister said on Instagram, according to HuffPost .

In a Facebook post, her mother reportedly accused Dewayne Johnson of no longer cooperating with the search for his wife.

“She was so excited about being pregnant,” her sister told KITV. “I’m pregnant as well, so we were excited to be on this journey together.”

Law&Crime reached out to the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division for additional details on this story, but no response was immediately forthcoming at the time of publication.
