An Oklahoma couple is behind bars after allowing their young children to wallow in a sad state of filth and literal feces inside their apartment, Sooner State law enforcement officials say.

Dakota Rain Dodd, 24, and Aubrianna Jewelyn Willow Freeman, 22, each stand accused of five counts of child neglect, according to Oklahoma County Detention Center records.

Officials allege the living conditions the children were subject to were unclean past the point of unsanitary — past the point of cruel.

The couple’s two boys, 3 and 4 years old, were allegedly found locked inside a bedroom of the family’s apartment on Greenvale Road in the western area of Oklahoma City, near Lytle Park.

Police say they responded to a call at the residence in response to a welfare check. When Dodd answered the door at around 11:15 a.m. on the day in question, he appeared to have “redness and marks” on his face as if he had just been roused from sleeping, according to a police report obtained by Law&Crime.

The father of the children allegedly first said he was the only one home but upon prompting admitted that his two sons were upstairs, the responding officer wrote in the police report.

And inside the sights were unnerving; the smells almost unbearable, police allege.

“Dodd again reiterated that the boys were upstairs and offered to go get them for me,” an officer wrote. “I asked if I could go with him, and he said I could. I was standing just inside the door of the home, and I could see the house was extremely unkempt. There was filth everywhere, food all over the table, walls, and floors. The odor inside the house was very strong; it smelled like garbage and feces.”

As the father and the officer prepared to go upstairs, Dodd allegedly called Freeman to apprise her of the situation. The officer wrote that they could hear the boys’ mother on the other end of the phone say: “The f—ing cops are at my door; we need to go.”

Police say Dodd kept a hurried pace — almost like he was trying “to beat” the responding officer to the top of the stairway.

“Dodd opened the door after shaking/moving the doorknob as if it was locked,” the officer wrote in the report. “Once the door opened, I was struck with a smell that made my stomach turn and my eyes water. I observed two young boys who were entirely naked immediately come out of the room as if they had been standing at the door waiting or trying to get out. The boys were both extremely dirty, covered in feces on their faces, hands, bodies, legs, and feet.”

The children were then ushered downstairs, police said. Dodd allegedly went on to say he “had intended” to give the children showers and clean up the feces on the walls “with paint.”

In the police report, significant portions of the law enforcement narrative — sometimes entire paragraphs — are redacted.

The narrative picks up: “I entered the room and was hit with a stench of urine and feces that was so strong I struggled to not vomit. There was feces all over the walls, floors, built in sink area, and windows.”

After that, the remainder of the document — several pages worth — is largely censored except for a portion about police grabbing a booster seat from the apartment so one of the children could be transported along with his siblings. Police say an 11-month-old baby girl was also in the residence — kept apart from the two feces-covered boys.

“Feces on the walls, feces on the kids. It was a completely disgusting scene,” Oklahoma City Police MSgt. Gary Knight told Oklahoma City-based ABC affiliate KOCO.” When they went inside, the officers described almost becoming overcome by the smell of feces and urine inside the residence.”

The TV station also reported that Dodd told law enforcement the boys were locked up in the filthy bedroom for 12 hours per day.

While the police report itself does not contain witness information, one of the family’s neighbors recently spoke with Oklahoma City-based CBS affiliate KWTV to describe her efforts in service of the Dodd-Freeman children.

“I’d go by that window and see them little boys naked in it, they looked at me as if to say help me,” the neighbor said. “They would have dookie all over their face, hands, mouth.”

Police later entered the unit wearing white hazmat suits, the neighbor told the TV station.

All three children are now in the custody of state child welfare authorities, police say.

Both Dodd and Freeman were arrested on Sept. 12, jail records show. Neither defendant currently has an attorney of record, according to Oklahoma County court records. Notably, in the formal case filed against Freeman, prosecutors rendered her middle name as “Marie.”

The cases against the two defendants have yet to be presented to prosecutors for formal charges, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office told Law&Crime.

Both of their bonds are currently set at $250,000.
