BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction after accepting a negotiated plea deal. Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John Plummer III sentenced 42-year-old Amber Eads to 15 years after she pleaded guilty to a Level 2 felony charge of conspiracy to deal meth. Judge Plummer suspended eight years to supervised probation and two years to electronic monitoring upon her release.

MITCHELL – A Mitchell woman was arrested after a warrant was issued for her arrest following her involvement in a child custody dispute on March 8, 2024. With 19 women in the Lawrence County Jail and just four female jail staff members, Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day told the county council he needs more help. Day asked the county council for an exception that would allow him to use the chief matron, a salaried female member of the support staff, to help out on a temporary basis until he’s able to hire more female jail staff.
