    It’s fair season, let’s go!

The internet has decided that Halloween starts now because, as the reasoning goes, now that the Fourth of July is over, the next seasonal items that stores will start stocking are fall and Halloween goodies.
That’s all fine, but here in Lawrence County, we know that with America’s birthday over (Happy 248th, USA!), it means that it is fair season.
The Lawrence County Fair started in 1953 as a simple two-day show on a farm and it grew so much that in 1966, 108 acres of land was purchased to set up a permanent location. That helped the fair develop into what it is now with rides, exhibits, demolition derbies, musical acts and circus acts while maintaining a strong emphasis on 4-H and FFA activities.
And if you’ve gone to the fair long enough, you notice that many of the kids showing their animals have grown up to become leaders in our community.
So, we at The Tribune commend all those who have made the fair a success year after year. It is a lot of hard work by members of the fair board, teen leaders and so many volunteers that often goes unnoticed by public.
