PHOTOS: Semi-truck crashes through I-15 barrier wall, causes ramp closures

LAYTON, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A semi-truck that was hauling hay struck two other vehicles and crashed through a sound barrier wall on an I-15 on-ramp in Layton on Wednesday night.

Lt. Richins with the Layton Police Department told ABC4.com that the semi-truck was traveling southbound to get onto I-15 when it experienced an issue. Richins said the nature of the issue is still under investigation, but said it may have been a mechanical- or driver-related error.

Richins said the semi-truck drove through an intersection and was heading onto the on-ramp on Antelope Drive when it experienced the issue. The semi-truck struck two vehicles, with one traveling eastbound and the other traveling westbound in the intersection.

Richins said the passengers of one car were injured and were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The people in the other vehicle were not injured, according to Richins.

After driving through the intersection, Richins said the semi-truck crashed through the barrier wall. The driver of the semi-truck was injured, but was treated on the scene and released, Richins said.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation traffic map , the incident first started around 7:10 p.m., and roads were expected to reopen at 11 p.m.
