Le Mars hosts annual Fourth of July parade

LE MARS, Iowa (KCAU) — For many, this Fourth of July served as just another day of flood recovery, but for those fortunate enough to be safe from high water, Independence Day meant family fun, good food, and a community celebration.

With the floods having an impact on our day-to-day lives, Le Mars officials hoped to provide a chance for people to relax for the day, perhaps by taking in the annual parade.

This year’s event made its way to the Plymouth County Historical Museum, before hitting the finish line. Musical groups, military members, antique cars and trucks, and even Santa Claus, made an appearance at this year’s parade.

Morning temperatures made it very pleasant for those in the parade as well as hundreds of spectators, but enjoying quality time with friends and family was top priority this Fourth of July.

“It’s something to take their mind off something they might currently be struggling with, and a bit of a distraction, programming coordinator Diane Nusbaum said. “It necessarily doesn’t help with the flooding, but it at least helps us get our mind off it and bring our spirits back up because that’s very important too.”

An estimated 50 to 100 people attended this year’s Fourth of July parade in Le Mars.
