    With pair of victories over Mayer Lutheran, LS-H softball picks up 5th and 6th straight wins

    Monday night, the Le Sueur-Henderson softball team made the trip to face off against Mayer Lutheran in a Minnesota River Conference doubleheader. The offensive firepower for the Giants continued set the tone, scoring a combined 31 runs in wins of 14-3 and 17-7, the fifth and sixth victories in a row for the team.

    With the wins, LS-H is now 6-6 (6-2 MRC) on the season. During the six-game win streak, the Giants have scored a total of 89 runs.

    In game one, LS-H started Victoria Hutton in the circle and she earned the win allowing three runs on four hits while striking out nine.

    In the top of the second, the Giants got the offense rolling with an RBI single from Anyssa Christ followed by an RBI double from Kelsey Wetzel and an RBI single from Brianna Jones. D’Lisa Flores-Gonzalez hit an RBI single and Teagan Graham followed that up with an RBI triple to center.

    The sixth run was scored on a fielder’s choice and Lehman ended the scoring deluge with an RBI double to left that put the Giants up 7-0. The offense never let up, scoring a run in the third, four more in the fourth and two in the fifth, leading to the 14-3 win.

    Wetzel and Jones finished a perfect 3-3 from the plate while Flores-Gonzalez went 2-3 with four RBI’s. All nine starters finished with at least one hit.

    Game two saw more offensive production out of Mayer Lutheran, but the additional output was matched by LS-H as the teams combined to score 14 runs by the end of the third inning, resulting in a 7-7 tie.

    The Giants broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with two runs coming home on a fielder’s choice followed by a throwing error. A third run was scored on a sac fly from Lehman and Hutton hit an RBI single to the shortstop deep in the hole that put LS-H up by four.

    The Giants added two more runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to earn the 17-7 win.

    Abigail Lewis finished game going 3-5 from the plate while Morgan Gregersen, Lehman and Hutton all finished with two hits.

    LS-H is scheduled to return to action Wednesday, May 8, when the team travels to Lester Prairie for a doubleheader with game one scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
