The Le Sueur County Fairgrounds was the place for horsing around over Father’s Day weekend, as crowds of spectators came out for a night of cattle-wrangling during the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse’s Friday Night Ranch Rodeo.

Teams of riders from across the region put on their cowboy hats and strung up their lassos to compete in the exciting event. The Ranch Rodeo included multiple challenges, such as doctoring, in which riders attempted to lasso a steer and hold the animal in place long enough for a teammate to run up and tag the calf with shaving cream, as well as penning, sorting and herding pairs of cattle into a trailer.

Riders on horseback aimed to complete these challenges as fast as possible.

The fun-filled weekend continued after the Friday Night Ranch Rodeo with the 42nd annual Saturday Trail Ride at noon. Families enjoyed taking a horse-drawn wagon around the Le Sueur County Fairgrounds, followed by a chicken dinner and dance in the evening.

Each year, the Ranch Rodeo and Trail Ride serve as major fundraisers for community youth organizations supported by the Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.
