Minnesota Officials Launch First Phase Of Nitrate Mitigation Plan
RUSHFORD – “If you take anything away from this presentation today, it’s this: get your well tested,” Tannie Eshenaur told southeast Minnesotans earlier this summer. Eshenaur, the Water Policy Center Manager at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), spoke to private well owners at a June Nitrate Open House – part of its education and outreach efforts related to groundwater pollution in southeast Minnesota. The meeting was held at the Rushford-Peterson school; additional meetings were held recently in Stewartville, Mazeppa and online.

Old fire bell gets a new home
With anticipation of Kolacky Days, a lot of work has gone into refurbishing the first fire bell for the city of Montgomery. Local Historian Dale Ruhland and a host of others have spent hours researching the origin, as well as coordinating funds and work to be done, on the fire bell that used to sit on a concrete pad alone in Memorial Park near the Settler’s Cabin.

Valleyfair's Fourth of July fireworks show rescheduled to Aug. 31
SHAKOPEE, Minn. — Valleyfair's Fourth of July fireworks show, which was canceled due to flooding, has been rescheduled for the end of summer.The Shakopee amusement park announced Tuesday the show will now take place Aug. 31 during the final weekend of Corn Fest. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.Flooding from the Minnesota River in late June caused Valleyfair to close its on-site parking and three rides. It also reduced entrance and exit capacity at the park.Corn Fest is the park's celebration of "Minnesota's favorite crop," organizers said. It features special corn concessions, live music, a corn eating contest and more. The festival runs Saturdays and Sundays, plus Labor Day, from Aug. 17 through Sept. 2. Corn Fest and fireworks are included in the park's admission fee. Corn Fest isn't the only major event on the calendar for Valleyfair. In January, the park will host Hockey Day Minnesota

2 Texas men charged after stealing $217k from a Brooklyn Park ATM
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (FOX 9) - Two men from Texas were charged after they stole $217k from a Wells Fargo ATM in Brooklyn Park and led police on a high-speed pursuit. Mankato Firefighters to Conduct Real-World Training at Scheduled Live Burn on South Front Street
The Mankato Fire Department is scheduled to carry out a live burn training session tomorrow, providing firefighters with hands-on experience in a controlled setting, the department's live fire exercise is set to take place at 1002 S. Front Street, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th.
