Cassopolis Village Council hosts August meeting

CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis Village Council met for a brief regular meeting on Monday at the Village Hall.

The light agenda consisted of approval of the regular meeting minutes from July 8, 2024, as well as approval of invoices totaling $701,346.55 and the second reading of Ordinance Update Chapter 264.

Stone Lake Improvement Board Chairman Ted Gogol spoke during public comment to note the work of Alexis O’Flynn, who is in charge of Community Development for the village, and other staff for their work in fundraising for summer events in the village.

Trustee Pedersen inquired about information regarding irrigation meters in the village. The meters can be used to measure water that returns to the ground after use instead of entering the sewer system, which can avoid sewer fees and lower water bills. The discussion was in relation to the community garden, but such meters are available for purchase from the village for residents as well.

Also discussed were ordinances relating to political action in the village, focusing particularly on the location of yard signs. Village Manager Emilie LaGrow noted that the existing ordinance could be reviewed by staff at the direction of the council.

LaGrow provided a project tracker and a grant tracker prepared by Alexis O’Flynn to give the council information regarding projects and their progress. Included in the trackers were several housing related items, including assisting homeowners with property rehabilitations, upgrades, and repairs and the development of additional residential spaces. The grant tracker listed over fifty grants received by the village totalling nearly $26 million.

The final date of the Rock the Block Summer Concert Series was announced. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Stone Lake Beach and will feature live music, a beer garden, and multiple food trucks. More information can be found at cassopolismainstreet.com.

The next Cassopolis Area Utilities Authority Meeting will take place at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19 at the Village Hall. A council Workshop Meeting will take place on Monday, Aug. 26. The September Regular Village Council Meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, September 9 at the Village Hall.
