EAU CLAIRE — Candidate Josh Zeug said representing the people in his district is his “civic duty” and it is something everyone should try to do.

Zeug is a candidate for the Eau Claire County District 24 supervisor seat. He is running against the current supervisor, Heather DeLuka.

District 24 is made up of wards 8, 12, and 13 in the City of Eau Claire.

The biggest issue facing the county today includes the closures of hospital facilities in the area, said Zeug.

He said this was a big loss to both Eau Claire and Chippewa counties. There will be effects of the closures the county will have to address.

He said that, with the loss of the healthcare facility jobs, other issues like affordable housing and the economy will also be affected.

“We’re all going to have to work together and work with the community parties involved to help come back from this,” said Zeug.

He said he is one person in a 29 district board, so working together as a county and combining people’s experiences would allow them to address the issues and make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.

Zeug said, through his work in business development, he helps other businesses by talking with them and figuring out what they need.

“I see lots of different business owners and community members throughout my day so I can hear things and what people’s issues are,” he said.

He also was previously in the Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Land Use Planning Commission for the Town of Lafayette.

“I got to experience some of that civic duty and type of government affairs…” said Zeug. “I enjoyed it and wanted to continue here.”

During his time on the commission, he said he developed Lafayette Park into one that could fund itself and be more available to people. He also led the efforts to build a frisbee golf course to bring people to Lafayette Park.

The candidate also said that he was also a part of creating the 2020 comprehensive plan for the future of the Town of Lafayette.

“Some of my backgrounds can help as well on the county level and give me a little head start on what is there in that category,” said Zeug.

He stated that he is also a volunteer firefighter. This has allowed him to see from an emergency services perspective, including knowing about its structure and the importance of it.

He said he has been campaigning in District 24 by talking with neighbors and building relationships before the election.

“I want to do what’s best for my constituents in District 24 and represent them on a county level,” said Zeug.
