RIVER FALLS — Wildcats head boys basketball coach Zac Campbell has announced his resignation, according to a letter from the coach that the team has posted on social media.

In a letter posted on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, Campbell talked about both the reasons for his resignation and the joy he had in coaching the Wildcats for the past 11 seasons.

The letter reads in part: “For the past 16 years my family and our coaching staff have given the best we have to serve the community of River Falls through our boys basketball program. It is with a tremendous amount of gratitude that I am resigning from my current position as the head coach of River Falls boys basketball. I leave this position eternally grateful for having formed lifelong friendships, developed memories I’ll never forget, and had all of the amazing experiences that come with high school athletics. Having the opportunity to lead is a privilege I don’t take lightly...”

The letter goes on to thank his wife, Brooke, his children and his parents for allowing the Wildcats basketball family into their home.

“Leading a basketball program has allowed me to experience life’s full emotion, and I’m honored to have had these experiences,” Campbell said in the letter that can be read in its entirety on the Wildcats X site, @RFBoysHoops.

Campbell began his stint as River Falls boys basketball coach in 2013 and posted an overall record of 187-105 in his 11 years there. He led the Wildcats to two Big Rivers Conference titles and in 2021, a state championship appearance.

The Leader-Telegram reached out to River Falls athletic director David Crail for comment on the coach’s resignation and to inquire about a timetable for finding a successor to Campbell, but did not hear back from the AD as of press time.
