CHIPPEWA FALLS — Two Chippewa Falls police officers were injured Sunday, with one suffering a cut on his throat from a dog bite, after an altercation with a Chippewa Falls man.

Glen A. Spooner, 62, 681 W. Canal St., appeared for a bond hearing Monday in Chippewa County Court on a possible charge of resisting or obstructing officers.

According to information presented in court, officers responded to a disturbance of criminal damage to property. They encountered Spooner, who resisted arrest and began to physically assault the officers, so the officers had to use two different types of chemical sprays to subdue him. During the arrest, Spooner's dog bit one officer on the arm while scratching another officer on the throat. Officer Drew Zehm, who attended the court hearing, said afterwards that both injuries were minor.

Judge Benjamin Lane ordered Spooner be held on a $200 cash bond and set a return court date for Sept. 24. As terms of his release, Spooner cannot have any contact with either of the officers.

Court records show Spooner's last criminal conviction was for his fourth drunk-driving conviction in 2007, when he was ordered to serve 115 days in jail.
