Nick Jonas sings badly in “The Good Half”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Nick Jonas had to stretch his acting ability for his new film “The Good Half": he had to play a bad singer. Jonas says a scene in which he sings karaoke poorly gave him the most concern. One thing that helped is that he’s supposed to be drinking in the scene. To keep him off balance, director Robert Schwartzman says he did not tell Jonas what the song was going to be until they shot the scene. “The Good Half” is in theaters now, and it will be released to streaming on Sept. 6.

Rick Steves will seek treatment for prostate cancer

PBS travel host Rick Steves (steevz) has prostate cancer. Steves, who is 69, writes on social media his doctor assures him, “If you’re going to get cancer, this is a good kind to get, and careful scans show no sign of it having spread.” Steves says his doctor has given the okay for him to film two new shows in France over the next three weeks before having surgery in Seattle in late September. Steves says he’s never spent a night in a hospital and is approaching it “almost like it’s some amazing, really important trip.”

“The Gwyneth Paltrow Ski-Trial Musical" will be staged in London

LONDON (AP) – A London theater will stage a production based on the 2019 trial involving Gwyneth Paltrow and a man who said she collided with him on a ski slope – and it’s a musical. “I Wish You Well: The Gwyneth Paltrow Ski-Trial Musical” is a musical parody that will run Sept. 11-12 at the Criterion Theatre. In 2019, a retired optometrist sued Paltrow, claiming injuries when she ran into him on a ski slope in Park City, Utah. Paltrow countersued, saying he ran into her. A jury sided with Paltrow and awarded her damages of one dollar.
