    Tropical Weather-Pacific for Friday, August 23, 2024

    Eastern Pacific:

Tropical Storm Hone forms; Hone and Gilma to approach Hawaiian islands

Tropical Storm Hone has formed. It will continue to track to the west over the open waters of the Pacific through the end of the week and approach the Hawaiian Islands this weekend. As the storm

moves just to the south, heavy rain and gusty winds are expected across the Hawaiian islands. The heavy rain and strong winds can lead to flash flooding, mudslides, downed trees and power outages.

Regardless of the exact track, rough surf and rip currents are expected at the end of this week and into the weekend. Ahead of the storm, trade winds will pick up across Hawaii, leading to an

elevated risk for wildfires across the state.

Hurricane Gilma is currently a major hurricane. While Gilma is not expected to bring any impacts to land over the next seven days, it may begin approaching Hawaii by late next week and into next

    weekend.

An area of disorganized thunderstorms currently located southwest of the southern coast of Mexico will have a high chance of developing late this week and this weekend as it passes to the south and

    southwest of Baja California.

    Western Pacific:

There is no Western Pacific tropical discussion at this time.

    Southern Pacific:
