WAVERLY, IOWA — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s soccer team was back in Iowa on Wednesday for another nonconference game. As the Blugolds faced off with the Knight from Wartburg College, both teams held an offensive showdown with 13 combined shots on goal. Two early goals for Wartburg were too much for Eau Claire as UWEC fell 2-1 on the road.

    HOW IT HAPPENED

Wartburg’s two goals in the opening seven minutes of play were just over three minutes apart as the Blugolds faced an uphill battle from the beginning.

Senior Molly Henderson got the Blugolds to within one goal in the 65th minute with her third goal of the season off a penalty kick.

Senior Kennedy Boll and Sophomore Bella Jones each played one half and 45 minutes and combined for five saves on seven shots on goal. Boll was assessed the loss and is now 4-5-1 on the year.

    WHAT’S NEXT

The Blugolds (4-5-1) will be back on the road on Sunday when they head to La Crosse, Wisconsin to face fifth ranked Christopher Newport University. Kick off from Veterans Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
