Police have arrested and charged a Missouri woman who was caught putting weed killer in her husband’s soda because he was “not appreciative” of the 50th birthday party she threw him, officials shared.

Michelle Y. Peters, 47, of Lebanon, Missouri, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action on Monday, according to court documents obtained by the New York Post .

While speaking with police about the incident, Peters reportedly told police that she put weed killer in his soda because she wanted to be “mean” to him for not being more appreciative of his birthday party.

Her husband, whose name has not been released, had reported his suspicions to the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office , saying he thought his wife was poisoning him, the Post reported.

He said that around May 1, he started noticing his Diet Mountain Dew bottle that he kept in his garage refrigerator had “tasted weird, police said.

At first, he ignored the taste and kept drinking it, but a couple of weeks later, he started having a sore throat, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, documents showed. A police report also stated that he started to cough up thick, brown-yellow mucus.

After he became suspicious, he checked the security camera he had in his garage. In the footage, he reportedly found Peters taking a bottle of Roundup weed killer and the soda into the house before returning and putting them both back in the same spots.

The husband told police he tried to put new bottles of the soda in his fridge but that Peters kept allegedly mixing the weed killer into his bottles. Eventually, he brought the footage to the sheriff’s office and reported what he thought was happening.

When police asked about a possible motive, the husband said he wasn’t sure if his wife was having an affair or trying to collect his life insurance money.

Peters was eventually brought in for questioning, and she claimed that she was mixing Mountain Dew with Roundup to create a weed-killing substance she “saw on Pinterest,” documents said.

Deputies showed her the footage, and she then said she “should have just divorced” her husband.

Shortly after the questioning, she was arrested and reportedly told police that her husband’s lack of appreciation for his party was the reason for her actions, the Post reported.

Peters has since pleaded not guilty to both charges and is being held without bond. She is set to appear in court again next week.
