Wind farm project to revolutionize Long Island’s energy
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) announced Wednesday, July 17, the start of construction on Sunrise Wind, an offshore wind farm about 30 miles off the coast of Montauk. The project is spearheaded by Ørsted, a global leader in renewable energy. To celebrate the groundbreaking of the project, officials from Ørsted met with several government leaders at the Boys & Girls Club in Bellport.

Niagara University biology/environmental science students and faculty showcased research findings at the annual meeting of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography, June 2-7, 2024, in Madison, Wisc. The annual ASLO meeting is the premier international science conference on limnology, the study of lakes and other inland water systems. This year’s conference discussed relevant work on aquatic ecosystems in a changing world, and how aquatic organisms, ecosystems, and management are adapting to global environmental change.
Smith Post brings top pitching to state tournament, looking for more offense
Smith Post opens the American Legion baseball state tournament with a game on Sunday afternoon. The Rome-based team, winner of the District V tournament, brings a trio of top starting pitchers and strong defense. If the offense can create just a little more, said manager Ryan Hickey, the team has a shot at its first state title since 1998.
SU dome renovations continue with new state grant
Just over a month before football season starts at Syracuse University, dome renovations continue as new chair back seats are installed. The seat renovations are the last piece of a wider $120 million dome renovation plan. New York Assembly Speaker Carl Hastie and Assembly Member Bill Magnarelli announced a new $3 million grant for the JMA Wireless Dome this week. Magnarelli said the grant is meant to help make up for some increasing construction costs.
