Mobile driver service center units opened Monday in Lebanon while the city's regular driver services center is closed for a remodel.

The state's mobile station will work out of two buses according to Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security spokesperson Wesley Moster. The location is at 410 Park Drive in the parking lot next to the Lebanon Public Works building, Moster said.

Hours at the temporary mobile site will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, while the regular Lebanon Driver Services Center on Maddox Simpson Parkway is closed. It is expected to reopen in January according to the Department of Homeland Security.

At the mobile unit set up in Lebanon citizens will be able to complete:

    • Road skills and vision testing
    • Obtain a regular driver's license, commercial driver's license, Real ID, photo ID, and update, replace, or renew driver’s licenses.

The mobile units will only accept credit or debit card payments. Citizens can make a road skills test appointment online at www.tn.gov/safety/driver-services/online.html .

Knowledge tests will not be administered at the mobile units.

The mobile units are visible from Tennessee Boulevard. Vehicles should enter from Tennessee Boulevard, Lebanon Commissioner of Public Works Jeff Baines said. Weather should not be an issue for the buses to provide services, Moster said.

While Lebanon's Driver Service Center is closed, area residents can also visit other nearby centers, self-service kiosks or use online services, according to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

The Wilson County Clerk’s Office, 129 S. College Street in Lebanon, is available by appointment only.

During the remodel, citizens can also visit nearby Driver Services Centers, the Wilson County Clerk’s Office, nearby Self-Service Kiosks, or utilize online services .

Teenagers between 15 and 17 years of age can take the knowledge test online under a parent or guardian’s supervision via the Tennessee Proctor Identification (PID) app.

Lebanon City Council took action to approve the temporary setup, Mayor Rick Bell said.

There was no city funding involved, Baines said.
