The 14th annual University of Southern Indiana Multicultural Center Essence of Excellence Summit is set for 3 p.m. Friday, September 27 in Carter Hall, located in University Center West. Massive solar farm planned for coal mine site in eastern Kentucky
A massive solar farm is in the works at the site of one of the largest coal mines in southern Appalachia. BrightNight, the developer behind the planned farm at the decades-old Starfire coal mine near Hazard, Kentucky, says the project could help reinvigorate a region where thousands of mining jobs have been lost. The Tennessee Chamber and Tennessee Manufacturers Association(TMA), partnered with the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services, Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association and Smart Factory Institute Tennessee to launch the contest.
Fire at Fall Creek Falls
At 2:42 Saturday afternoon, Piney Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire with Spencer Fire-Rescue, Fall Creek Falls Fire Dept, and Cedar Grove Fire Department. The structure was a large shed with many golf carts inside at the Dead Zero Shooting Park. Due to the reported size of the fire and the location, the Dunlap Fire Department and Harrison Ferry Fire Department were also requested for manpower and water.
