Pittsburgh's Mason Miller throws hardest recorded pitch in MLB All-Star Game history
ARLINGTON (KDKA) - All eyes were focused on Texas on Tuesday night as the Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes began the night as the National League's starting pitcher in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game. In the 94th Midsummer Classic, Skenes was able to toss a scoreless first inning, facing four batters, and showing off his triple-digit skills, topping out at 100.1 mph. His first batter was the Guardians' Steven Kwan who hit into a pop-fly for the first out, followed by a comebacker from Gunnar Henderson of the Orioles. Skenes then walked the Yankees Juan Soto but it led to the matchup everyone...
Former Yankees pitcher who threw perfect game opts out of Pirates deal
Right-hander Domingo German was released by the Pirates this week, per the transaction log at MiLB.com. He’d been pitching with their Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis. Robert Murray of FanSided reports that German exercised an opt-out clause in his contract, prompting the release. The Bucs remain open to bringing him back, per Murray — presumably on a new minor league pact.
Former Penguins Still Getting Paid Impacting Club’s Cap Space
The Pittsburgh Penguins are still paying former players, including Reilly Smith, Jeff Petry, and Jack Johnson, leading to a dead space allocation of $3,729,167. Smith, who was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights, lasted only one season before being traded to the New York Rangers, with the Penguins retaining 25% of his salary. Petry came from the Montreal Canadiens but was later part of a multi-team deal, with the Penguins agreeing to retain part of his salary for two seasons. Johnson, signed in 2018, was eventually waived and bought out, but Pittsburgh still owes him around $1.8 million over the next two years.

West Virginia University's 2023-24 season - and the final season of the Randy Mazey tenure - is over. The Mountaineers finished the year at 36-24 overall, 19-11 in the Big 12 Conference, and advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time in the history of the program. Sadly, in the world of college sports, there is little time to reminisce and enjoy the moment, as players will be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal and/or announcing their MLB Draft plans. Here is EerSports' WVU Baseball Transfer and Roster Tracker.
Big 12 Snapshot: West Virginia Mountaineers
Good morning. I’m introducing a new series intended to take a look at each team in the new Big 12. I’m not sure how many I’ll get done each week, but the only way for me to really know about these teams is to actually do the research so I can be relatively informed when the season hits. So I spent time doing the research this weekend. There are links to everything below so if there isn’t a link, then I didn’t write it, but I always link back to the originator of the content. I wanted to take a quick look at the team: get a feel for the best players; look into their portal class consisted and how they ranked overall; a look at the 2024 recruiting class; and ending on the graphic from Sharp College Football.
I regret to inform you the Eagles have reloaded once more
The 2023 Philadelphia Eagles were the 2020 Pittsburgh Steelers in disguise. The 2020 Steelers started out 11-0 as whispers of fraudulence followed them to the top of the NFL standings. They finished that season on a 1-5 streak capped by an ignominious loss to Baker Mayfield as a home favorite in the Wild Card round.
