LEDYARD, Conn. (WTNH) — Ledyard police say they charged a local man with driving under the influence not long after sending him home in an Uber.

Police said they located 49-year-old Robert Fabel in his vehicle at Erickson Park in Gales Ferry around 12:48 a.m.

While speaking with him, police determined Fabel was “highly intoxicated” and officers helped him get an Uber ride home.

Not long after, police reported seeing Fabel driving along Route 12, where he was stopped and arrested for driving under the influence.

Fabel was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond. He’s scheduled to appear in New London Superior Courthouse on July 18.
