Bank of America awarded $20,000 to The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools to support the organization’s workforce development programs to help Lee County high school students achieve success.

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools aims to develop and encourage students through assorted STEM experiences, peer to peer mentoring and summer opportunities. Programs such as Peer-to- Peer Mentoring (P2P) and #LEELISTENS give students motivation to tackle problems both inside and outside of the classroom by instilling characteristics like problem-solving, perseverance and self-awareness. In addition, the College & Career Center offers workshops and resources to prepare students for post-secondary education, technical training and entering the workforce. The business community supports the program by participating in and providing guidance in monthly workshops and student mentoring.

“Bank of America has been a long and steady partner with The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools,” said Marshall T. Bower, president and CEO, The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools. “We have been successful in carrying out our mission of enhancing and enriching the public-school experience for our students and educators because of the engagement of great business partners like Bank of America. They understand the cornerstone of an economically sound community is a good public education system. We are happy to count the bank as one of our outstanding business partners!”

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is just one of 15 Southwest Florida nonprofits the bank is supporting with economic mobility grants awarded to nonprofits through the year to help tackle society’s biggest challenges. This first round of grants is focused on improving the lives of individuals and families by investing in health and jobs.

“By working with The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, we are supporting local students’ access to a quality education,” said Gerri Moll, president, Bank of America Southwest Florida. “By investing in workforce development initiatives, like mentoring and workshops provided by the organization, we are driving economic growth in the Southwest Florida community.” ¦
