Man tosses pills out of car window in high-speed chase with deputies, Lee County deputies say
SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – A man is facing multiple drug charges after leading deputies on a short chase in Lee County on Wednesday, deputies said. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, narcotics agents tried to conduct a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger Scat Pack in the area of Boykin Avenue in Sanford.

Meridian Waste Relocates Operating Facility to Address Growth in the Piedmont Triad
Meridian Waste Acquisitions, LLC announced and completed the relocation of its Goldston, N.C. hauling, maintenance and administrative facility to Sanford, N.C., approximately 4.5 miles from its former Goldston location. The new operations facility is located at 274-B Cumnock Road, Sanford, N.C. 27330 in Lee County. Due to Meridian Waste’s growth in the Piedmont Triad region, a newer, larger and more modernized facility was needed to ensure the proper storage and maintenance of the collection vehicles, greater office space and technology infrastructure for it expanding staff and a safer traffic flow for both collection rolling stock and personal staff vehicles.
Two local athletes play in out-of-state events
Two local athletes hit the road this past weekend as they took part in summer tournaments in soccer and softball. Lee County’s Addy Allen was a guest player for the North Carolina Football Club Youth (NCFCY) White North team from Friday through Monday, as the team reached the semifinals of the 2024 Southern Presidents Cup in Plano, Texas. In the U17 Division that Allen’s team competed in, 12 of the top select teams from the Southeastern United States participated, with the top two finishers advancing to the National Presidents Cup next month in Wichita, Kansas.
Broadway board meeting Monday
The town of Broadway Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 24, at town hall, located at 117 S. Main St. Items on the agenda include: an amendement to the 2023-24 budget ordinance; the 2024-25 budget ordinance; accountant retention; an appointment to Lee County Environmental Affairs; appointment to the Broadway Planning Board; the state code enforcement contract renewal; and Lee County Transportation 7.0 update.
