Q&A on Grand Sierra Resort's 'Reno Arena' project on pace to break ground in spring 2025
The Grand Sierra Resort last week released new artist renderings and a video promoting its proposed "Reno Arena" that would be home to the Nevada men's basketball team as a main tenant with additional concerts and shows at the 10,000-plus-seat arena. Grand Sierra Resort is owned by Alex Meruelo, who bought the property in 2011 and recently sold his NHL franchise for $1 billion, which could be used to help pay for the projected $1 billion investment into the GSR, which also would include a multi-level golf hitting bay, an ice hockey facility, affordable housing, a new hotel tower and a 3,000-spot parking center. Andrew Diss, the senior vice president and chief strategy officer of Meruelo Gaming, visited the NSN studios Wednesday to provide an overview of the project, which has a projected groundbreaking date of spring 2025 that would put it on pace for a fall 2027 opening. Here is that interview with the Q&A below that.
