Houlton man finishes Miracle Mile race less than a month after a heart transplant
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - While finishing any race is an accomplishment, for one gentleman finishing the annual Miracle Mile race was quite literally a miracle. Meet Sam Hiscoe, a 35-year-old who was born and raised in Houlton. In seventh grade Sam found out he had a heart condition that would progressively get worse over time. This year, Sam found out he would need a heart transplant, so he decided to document his whole journey through TikTok.
Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Shooting and Killing Woman in Maine
A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting and killing a 25-year-old woman in Lewiston. Eddie Massie from Lewiston fatally shot Lacresha Howard from Lewiston in December 2022. Man and Woman Heard Arguing before Gunshot. Witnesses said they heard Massie and Howard arguing before hearing gunshots.

New law aims to address environmental impacts of wake surfing in Maine
MAINE, USA — Earlier this year, a new law was enacted to help protect the shorelines of Maine's lakes and ponds, which are home to several small birds and animals. A conversation with NGFR Chief Craig Bouchard
NGX sat down with Chief Bouchard to learn about what’s happening with the New Gloucester Fire & Rescue, what’s working well, what is needed and the challenges they face. Bouchard was appointed chief in July 2023, after an extended search. He had been hired as a per diem member in June 2019, and was appointed part time deputy chief in August 2019. He strives to create a more member-centered culture in the department. “We believe all members are equal, and everyone’s ideas are valued the same. So many great ideas flow from the bottom up.” One example he described was team training in low-angle rope rescues, essential in rescuing someone who has fallen down a steep slope. This collaborative culture helps to increase involvement, commitment and retention. “It keeps people here because they’re happy,” noted the chief.
