Fourth of July fireworks causing major fog in Michiana
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Fireworks could be heard across Michiana Thursday night in celebration of Independence Day, but when the smoke from those fireworks mixed with the humid air at US 20 bypass, chaos happened in the form of a thick fog that caused an almost 15 car pile-up. Meteorologist Nathan Marsili from the National Weather Service (NWS) explained that the firework smoke and humidity caused from rainfall in Elkhart County created something called an inversion in the atmosphere.

South Bend firefighters respond to multiple fires overnight
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend firefighters were called to two different structure fires on July 4 and into the morning of July 5. "Shortly before midnight companies were dispatched to the 700 block of Johnson Street for a fire," fire officials said. "F103 reported a working fire in a one-story house. Crews found fire on the exterior of the house on the Charlie side extending into the attic. Crews began attacking the fire and opening up the attic space where heavy fire was found. Crews were able to get a handle on the fire and the fire was marked under control around the third ten-minute notification. Primary and secondary searches were negative. No injuries were reported."
