Ten years ago today, the headline in the Naples Daily News read “After Estero incorporation legislation, developers speeding up projects.”. Estero’s population had grown 144% from 2000 to 2010, from 9,261 to 22,612, according to one study. The south Lee community’s population was expected to grow at a higher-than-average rate than the rest of the county, according to an Estero market assessment released in September 2013.
Immokalee Felon Javier Joel Perez Sentenced to 8 Years for Drug Trafficking and Firearm Charges
Javier Joel Perez, a 46-year-old resident of Immokalee, has been sentenced to 8 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges related to drug and gun offenses. U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber handed down the sentence, as Perez faced consequences for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the ruling on July 19, following a guilty plea entered earlier this year on February 21.
