Pa. independents could sway the presidential election; here’s what they have to say about it
The skyrocketing concern among Pennsylvania voters over the two major party choices for president after the first debate was no surprise to independent voter Jennifer Bullock. “In a way, this might sound strange given the dystopian landscape we’re in, but in a way fellow independents are like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, you’re totally horrified by the two choices? Because that’s been my life for a long time,’” said Bullock, a Montgomery County resident and coordinator of the group Independent Pennsylvanians.

Asking Eric: When I talk about the many places I’ve been and the celebrities I’ve met, people walk away
DEAR ERIC: I have been fortunate to have met a number of well-known people and visited many locales worldwide, often, due to my business, places where tourists don’t go. Occasionally, someone in a group I am with mentions reading about a person or place I know something about from personal experience. If I volunteer that I personally am acquainted with said individual or locale, the response is nearly always negative. The conversation dies, the people walk away.
Dear Abby: My stepmother won’t stop pushing her unsound parenting advice on me
DEAR ABBY: My husband and I had a baby right around the time my father remarried. I didn’t know my new stepmother very well when she started giving me parenting advice. The issue is, her convictions are not in line with mine and also conflict with the advice from the CDC or the American Academy of Pediatrics. Some examples: She insists breastfeeding is stunting the baby’s growth (she’s fine), that babies should be put to bed face-down (dangerous) and that holding a baby in a car is just as good as a car seat (?!). I do my best to smile, nod and go about my business, but she’s really pushy and keeps saying she was a nurse, so she knows what she’s talking about.

Miss Manners: Please don’t flush the toilet when I’m in the restroom taking a business call
DEAR MISS MANNERS: I have a very stressful job. I am connected to my phone almost 24/7, and I take all calls regardless of my location. I frequently take calls from clients and staff while using the ladies’ room. I am distressed when others using the same restroom flush toilets and use loud hand-dryers while I’m on the phone. It must be obvious to them that I’m talking, and yet they make these noises, which interrupt my calls.

Dear Annie: The foul language my friend uses when children are around shocks me

Dear Abby: How can I help a friend and co-worker who I’ve learned is a hoarder?
DEAR ABBY: A co-worker and I have developed a mutual friendship with a co-worker who lives in a different town. They’re a beautiful human with the hugest heart. They escaped an abusive relationship and are currently a single parent to their special-needs child. They’re also severely isolated due to the abuse they suffered.
Dear Annie: My coworkers ignore my greetings and goodbyes. Should I stay or move on?

Hints from Heloise: How to keep a soap dish clean and berries fresh
Dear Heloise: When our father died, we received a vast amount of vases of flowers that could not be taken to the cemetery. After the service, we gave several to neighbors. When the flowers were dead, we washed the vases and took them to local florists instead of donating them to charities. They were happy to get them. We did this again when our mother passed.
