    LEHMAN TWP., PIKE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A bus driver is facing various charges after police say she slammed the brakes causing children to be sent to the hospital.

    According to Pennsylvania State Police, on April 11 around 4:00 p.m., troopers were called for a disturbance at Pine Ridge Community in Lehman Township. Police say on the scene they found angry parents, a bus driver, and crying children.

    Through further investigation, troopers said they learned Kerry Sullivan of Delaware Township, a bus driver for the East Stroudsburg Area School District, had suddenly hit the brakes of the bus she was operating.

    Sullivan told troopers that she pulled the emergency brakes twice after she told the students to stop screaming, as stated in the affidavit.

    PSP stated this caused the children to go forward and hit “several points of the bus’s interior in a sudden fashion.”

    A total of 39 children were in the school bus at the time of the incident, two victims were taken to the hospital and were released.

    Sullivan has been charged with the following;

    • Endangering the welfare of children
    • Simple assault
    • Recklessly endangering another person
    • Harassment
    • Careless driving
    • Reckless driving

    On June 21 Sullivan turned herself in to police and was released on her own recognizance by the judge.
