Pharmacy Chain Announces Another 22 Store Closures in California After Bankruptcy Proceedings

According to a new report, Rite Aid is set to close 77 stores across the United States, significantly reducing its national presence. Among these, 22 locations are in California, highlighting the state's share in the nationwide downsizing.

This move follows the drugstore chain's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and an earlier announcement to shut down 75 stores, underscoring its financial struggles amidst declining sales, competitive pressures, and legal challenges related to opioid litigation. California, already witnessing the closure of numerous Rite Aid stores, faces another wave of shutdowns affecting communities and employees.

The company aims to streamline operations and reduce expenses through these closures, part of a broader strategy to stabilize its financial health and adapt to the evolving retail landscape.

There are 1704 Rite Aid stores across the country, according the Rite Aid website.
