Did you notice some changes at your local store? Dollar General, a popular spot for many in California, is significantly changing how people check out. They're saying goodbye to some of those self-checkout machines.

The CEO, Todd Vasos, said they used too many of these machines before. Now, they're bringing in more workers to help at the checkout. During a recent earnings call with investors, Vasos said they want to ensure customers and workers have a better experience in the store.

About 300 stores will altogether remove self-checkout across the country. Another 9,000 stores will change their self-checkout machines to ones where workers help you. And in around 4,700 stores, you can only use self-checkout if buying five items or less. There are over 240 stores in California.

These changes are happening after Dollar General examined how people use self-checkout. They found that some people were taking things without paying for them. They believe having workers help out more will improve this.

So, next time you're at Dollar General, you might see some new changes at the checkout.
