    Lena girls advance to Division 4 Regional championship game

    Round two of the WIAA girls basketball Regional playoffs continued Friday night, with five area squads in action.

    How did Coleman, Crivitz, Lena, Oconto and Gillett fare? Read ahead to find out.

    Division 5

    No.1 Lena 71, No. 8 Oneida Nation 55

    LENA — Two teams that know each other well squared off in the semifinals of the Division 5 Regional playoffs, as No.1 Lena downed No. 8 Oneida Nation 71-55.

    The two Marinette and Oconto Conference foes faced off twice already this season, with the Wildcats winning both contests 60-41 and 67-45, respectively.

    Madilyn Thomson dropped 20 of her 26 points in the first half to help Lena (24-2) race ahead 39-33 at halftime.

    Eva Brooks took over offensively in the second half with a 22-point outburst, while the Wildcats’ defense held the Thunderhawks(15-11) to just five field goals.

    Brooks led all scorers with a game-high 31 points.

    Jaylyn Caldwell was Oneida Nation’s leading scorer with 19 points. Mariah Cloud added 15.

    CRANDON, Wis. — Lauren Littleton pumped in a game-high 17 points as No, 4 Crandon shut down No. 5 Coleman 51-35 in the Division 4 semifinals.

    Madelynn Erdman and Callee Compe engaged in a 3-point shootout in the first half, with Compe hitting three triples for the Cougars, while Erdman knocked down four of her own to help the Cardinals (20-5) seize a 29-20 advantage at halftime.

    Erdman finished with 15 points.

    Skylar Broderick authored 12 of her team-high 13 points in the second half but was the only Cougar outside of Annabell Markiewicz to record a basket after halftime.

    Markiewicz and Vivan Kostreva both chipped in five points for Coleman. Compe added nine, Allie Gross pitched in two and Alyssa Kurth tallied one.

    Coleman finishes the 2023-24 season with an overall record of 17-8.

    No. 2 Laconia 82, No. 7 Crivitz 27

    LACONIA, Wis. — No. 2 Laconia made short work of the No. 7-seeded Crivitz girls basketball team, as the Spartans sliced through the Wolverines 82-27 in the second round of the Division 4 Regionals.

    Laconia (23-2) knocked down six 3-pointers in the first half to build a commanding 40-6 cushion at halftime.

    Kiya Brand scored seven points while Lucy Gruszynski and Izzy Wesoloski combined for nine more, but the Wolverines were still outscored by a 42-21 margin in the second half.

    Brand collected a team-high nine points for the Wolverines. Wesoloski pitched in five, Gruszynski and Tayah Werner each tacked on four, while Logan and Kirsten Pusick both contributed two.

    Payton Morgan, Eva Engel and Molly Duel all finished with 12 points for the Spartans.

    Crivitz wraps up the 2023-24 season with an overall record of 18-8.

    No. 3 Bonduel 70, No. 6 Oconto 23

    BONDUEL, Wis. — No. 3 Bonduel rode a big first half to power past the No. 6 Oconto girls basketball team 70-23 in round two of the Division 4 Regionals.

    Bonduel (23-2) stormed out to a 31-point advantage at halftime and never looked back, outpacing the Lady Blue Devils 30-14 in the second half.

    Addisyn Viestenz led Oconto with 11 points. Braiya Wusterbarth and Anna Vandenlagenberg both had three, Lauren McDowell and Alexis Martin each pitched in two, while Emilee Banker and Natalie Schlueter added one.

    Bonduel did not report any stats at press time.

    Oconto ends the 2023-24 season at 17-9 overall.
