    Lena girls capture Division 5 Regional title

    LENA — Madilyn Thomson’s big second half propelled the Lena girls basketball team to the WIAA Division 5 Regional championship with a 48-29 triumph over Florence on Saturday.

    Thomson poured in 11 of her game-high 17 points in the second half while Eva Brooks and Karli Fischer knocked down a pair of timely 3-pointers to help the No.-1 seeded Wildcats (25-2) dash past Florence by a 30-16 margin after halftime.

    Matters were much tighter in the first half, as Bella Millan authored eight points and Kamdan Johnson pitched in a triple for the No. 4 Bobcats (19-8), but Lena countered with seven points from Brooks to seize an 18-13 halftime advantage.

    Brooks chipped in 13 points for the Wildcats. Whitney Potter added seven, Fischer tacked on four and Hannah Thomson finished with three.

    Millan and Johnson both collected 12 points for the Bobcats

    Up nextLena: The Wildcats face No. 3 Wabeno/Laona (19-8) in the Division 5 Sectional semifinals, Thursday at Green Bay Southwest. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
