    Lena girls take home Sectional title, punch their ticket to State tournament

    ANTIGO — The Lena girls basketball team is State-tournament bound after the No.1-seeded Wildcats took down No. 2 Pittsville 66-57 to capture the WIAA Division 5 Sectional championship on Saturday in Antigo.

    The Wildcats join No. 1 Clear Lake, No. 1 Argyle/Pecatonica and No. 1 Albany/Monticello as the final four teams left standing in Division 5.

    Lena (27-2) grabbed a five-point cushion at halftime and never looked back, outscoring Pittsville 39-35 in the second half.

    Madilyn Thomson dropped a team-high 23 points for the Wildcats, with Eva Brooks not far behind with 20. Kali Fischer tacked on 11, Whitney Potter pitched in six, and Hannah Thomson and Maddy Kushner both tallied three.

    Pittsville (24-5) did not report any stats at press time.

    Lena: The Wildcats will compete at the WIAA State championship tournament on March 8 at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

    The first semifinal game tips off at 9:05 a.m. with the second matchup to follow approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

    The Division 5 championship game takes place March 9 at 11:05 a.m.
