Hawley Falls to Perham for the First FB Game of the Season
The Hawley Nuggets opened their 2024 Football Season with a home game against the Perham Yellowjackets Friday night. The game started Hawley receiving the opening Kickoff. They did get 1 First Down before they had to punt. Perham began their first drive of the Season 2 first downs, before having to punt. The Nuggets returner muffed the punt and turned it over to the Yellowjackets at the Hawley 11 yard line. Perham’s QB Alex Blume punched it in from one yard out and then threw a 2-pt conversion, to give Perham the early 8-0 at 3:49 of the First Quarter. A back and forth battle saw Hawley get the ball with 1:30 to play in the First Half and capped off a drive with an 18yd scramble by QB Noah Nelson, but Hawley missed their 2pt try. Perham held a 8-6 lead at Half. The second Half saw 4-punts, 2-Turn over on downs and one Hawley Fumble…all before the Nuggets took their first lead of the game with 2:05 left in the game, going up 12-8 on a 1yd TD from Noah Nelson. After the Nuggets Kicked it off, the Yellowjackets, with 2:00min left, went on a 70 yard TD drive in :39sec on a 17yd TD pass from Alex Blume to Ashton Detloff, for Perham to get a 14-12 lead. Hawley had one more drive with 1:17 left, but a couple of penalties kept the drive from putting Hawley back on top. The game finished 14-12. Hawley falls to 0-1, Perham goes to 1-0 before they play Detroit Lakes next Friday at 7pm on KDLM and the Lakes 99.5. Hawley goes to Frazee on Friday September 6th at 7pm on KRCQ. Hawley’s QB Noah Nelson was named the Muscatell Burns Ford MVP of the game.
