LENOX, Iowa — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations on Wednesday released the name of a southwest Iowa bank robbery suspect who died by suicide earlier this week.

At around 1:30 p.m. on Monday the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a robbery at the Iowa State Savings Bank in Lenox. According to DPS, a male suspect — now identified as 45-year-old Steven Trent Sapp from Hooper, NE — demanded money and then left the bank on a motorcycle.

Man placed hidden camera in West Des Moines Target changing room, police say

Sapp led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit into Adams County before losing control of his motorcycle and crashing in a farm field, DPS said. Sapp then fled from the crash scene on foot.

While officers were searching for Sapp they heard a single gunshot in the area. According to DPS, Sapp was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
