    Zone 4 playoffs

    Leominster 4, North County 3: Brendan Mariani was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, forcing in Ashton Molzhan with the winning run for Post 151 in the opener of a best-of-three semifinal series at McLaughlin Park.

    Game 2 was slated for Saturday at McLaughlin, with a deciding game, if necessary, on Sunday.

    Justin Mariani had three singles and drove in two runs for Leominster, and Molzhan and Cam Marshall (2 runs) each added two hits.

    Sam Curtis hit a two-run double in the third inning for North County, and Jayden Downing had two hits and scored twice.

    Hudson 14, Milford 0: Chase Donahue tripled twice and drove in three runs, Bobby Long was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Chase Barrett knocked in four as visiting Post 100 rolled at Fino Field in its series opener.

    Teddy McFarland threw two-hit ball over six innings, and Michael Atwater hurled a hitless seventh for Hudson, which hosts Milford in Game 2 Saturday.

    Sean Burchard and Eli Sylvia had the hits for Milford.

    Senior League East Regional

    Auburn 13, Massapequa (N.Y.) 8: After entering the top of the seventh inning tied, winning reliever Liam Doyle rapped a two-run single, and Bryce Everson, Chase Reyes and Owen Morrow followed with RBI singles in the second round at Bangor, Maine.

    Auburn, 2-0 in the tournament, will face Berlin, Maryland, iin the winners' bracket final at 1 p.m. Sunday. The tournament is double elimination.

    Matthew Friedland drove in three runs on two hits, and Morrow went 3 for 5 for Auburn, which pounded out 17 hits.

    Major League state sectionals

    Holden 9, Athol 0: The District 4 champions prevailed at home, moving to 1-1 in the double-elimination format.

    Holden next visits District 2 champ Westfield (1-1) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, with the winner taking on Pittsfield (2-0) of District 1 at 1 p.m. Sunday for the Section 1 title and a berth in the state Final Four.

    Holden lost to Westfield, 3-2, in its sectional opener completed Thursday, after the game was suspended by rain Wednesday, with the teams tied, 1-1, in the fifth inning.

    New England Senior Babe Ruth

    Connecticut 8, PNJ All-Stars 0: The hosts face Vermont in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Saturday after falling to Stamford in the first round of the double-elimination tournament at Tivnan Field.

    The winner of PNJ/Vermont was to play again at 4 p.m. Saturday.

    Futures Collegiate League

    Norwich 16, Bravehearts 0: Brady Stuart of Hudson allowed only four hits and struck out eight in six shutout innings, but the league-leading Sea Unicorns (27-16) exploded for 10 runs in the seventh and six in the eighth, after which the game at Fitton Field was called via mercy rule.

    Dylan LaPointe had both hits for the Bravehearts (22-22).

    International League

    WooSox 14, Lehigh Valley 3: Chase Meidroth (3 for 6), Enmanuel Valdez and Nick Sogard homered, and Nick Yorke and Bobby Dalbec also had three hits as visiting Worcester collected 16 hits in its first game after the All-Star break.

    Junior League East Regional

    Burkett 6, Tiverton (R.I.) 4; Orange (Conn.) 18, Burkett 0: The District 4 champions were 2-1 in round-robin play after splitting their games at Orange, Connecticut.

    On Burkett's remaining slate were games at 11 a.m. Saturday against West Nyack, New York, 11:30 a.m. Sunday against New Jersey champ Stafford and noon Monday against Indiana, Pennsylvania.

    The top four teams coming out of the round robin advance to Tuesday's 9 a.m. semifinals, followed the final at noon, with the winner advancing to the Junior League Softball World Series in Kirkland, Washington.
