Storm damage obstructs roads—and news—in Leslie

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — An area that was hit particularly hard by Tuesday’s weather was Leslie, where flooded roads and downed trees made it tough to get around the area on Wednesday.

Baseline Road was completely blocked off by a tree that was knocked down by strong winds, and crews were out on Wednesday taking it apart and clearing the way to reopen the road.

Meanwhile, the entirety of Bellevue Street was flooded. People who live in the neighborhood told 6 News that they’ve seen flooding like this before, but never this bad, and that several cars got stuck there trying to drive through it.

A tow truck driver in the area says he’s been busy all day.

“We’re going to have them all throughout the day. We’ve probably had 5 already and we’ll keep getting them,” said tow truck operator Tanner Smith. “If you see standing water on the road, don’t drive through there.  there for a reason, there’s standing water and it usually is more than you think. Even if you’ve driven on that road a million times the waters going to be deeper than you expect.”

Police and road officials are urging everyone to avoid driving through flooded streets even if it’s only a few inches deep.

That even goes for 6 News. While in Leslie, our crew found themselves stuck in some mud while trying to get close to the scene and had to be towed out.

Luckily, no one was hurt, and our crew still met their deadline.
