SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The College Sports Communicators have selected Spring Arbor University men's bowler Caleb Tate to the 2024 NAIA Academic All-America® Team. Tate was picked to the Academic All-America® Second Team after a national vote by the College Sports Communicators. He earlier was honored as a CSC Academic All-District® selection before advancing to the national ballot. Tate was one of 21 individuals recognized across the NAIA and was the only Crossroads League athlete to make the at-large list. Man dies in workplace accident at Michigan automotive manufacturing facility
(CBS DETROIT) - A 36-year-old man died after an equipment malfunction at a Michigan automotive manufacturing facility, just days before the facility was scheduled to begin the closing process, officials said.On Monday, deputies responded to Dexter Stamping at 1013 Thorrez Road in Jackson County after receiving a report of a dead employee. The worker, a die setter, was transporting and lifting a die with a crane when the swivel bolt broke, according to the Labor and Economic Opportunity. This caused the corner of the die to strike the ground and the top half to separate, crushing the man. The incident report revealed that the swivel bolt wasn't fully threaded into the die. The incident happened just days before the facility was scheduled to close permanently. The first round of layoffs was planned for July 17, with the final layoffs happening by July 31. All employees at the facility are impacted by this closure, according to the automotive manufacturing facility. So far this year, there have been 14 workplace deaths reported to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA). There were 36 workplace-related deaths in 2023, and the lowest number of workplace deaths in a year was in 2009, with 24 deaths.

Grand Ledge Emergency Assistance Program asking community for help as operating expenses run low
GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WILX) - The Grand Ledge Emergency Assistance Program (GLEAP) said it has only four months of funding left. It comes as the need for help continues to grow. Like the state emergency relief program, it provides assistance with things such as rent, utilities and food. The organization said it has helped struggling seniors and families during tough times for more than 50 years. The program is working to raise at least $60,000.

ANN ARBOR, MI — A major housing development slated to move forward in Ann Arbor in 2025 now plans to operate a unique system to generate its own building electricity. City Council showed its support Monday night, July 15, approving zoning changes to allow the eight-story SouthTown project at 1601 S. State St. to operate its own power microgrid with energy coming from various renewable sources.
