Police identify Clare hit-and-run driver accused of injuring motorcyclist and passenger
CLARE — On July 18 around 11:23 p.m., a serious accident occurred at the intersection of 5th and McEwan in the city of Clare. A white Chevrolet SUV, driven by Thomas Vernon Claringbold III of Clare, was speeding south on McEwan and struck an orange Harley Davidson motorcycle at the intersection, police said. The motorcycle was carrying a male driver and a female passenger, both from Mason, MI, who suffered serious injuries, police said. One person was taken by ambulance, while the other was flown out of the Clare Municipal Airport by a FlightCare helicopter. Claringbold, who fled the scene, was quickly located and identified. Police said he was uninjured. He was arrested and charged with the following crimes:

(CBS DETROIT) - Two Lansing men have been sentenced to prison for making threats and carrying firearms inside a convenience store, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday.Quentin Earl Booth, 39, was sentenced to 71 months and three years' supervised release. Derrick Smith Jr., 30, was sentenced to 57 months. Federal prosecutors say in September 2023, police responded to a store in Lansing about a report that Smith walked into the store with an assault rifle. Sheriff candidate taken to court for $21K in debt, says it makes her relatable
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – Capitol One sued a Washtenaw County sheriff candidate for owing nearly $21,000, court records show. The credit card company filed a lawsuit against Alyshia Dyer, one of three Democrats appearing on the Aug. 6 primary ballot, in February. The debt was primarily daily living costs incurred while she was in graduate school, Dyer said, and she believes her the debt makes her more relatable to voters.
Sheriff candidate says licensing complaint, investigation ‘a made-up thing’
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – The state is investigating a Washtenaw County sheriff’s candidate for allegedly misrepresenting himself as a social worker. A complaint filed May 14 with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs pointed to Derrick Jackson’s campaign material and social media as evidence he has been improperly saying he is a social worker, according to documents obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request. A representative from LARA said the department does not comment on ongoing investigations.

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Taking steps to protect and preserve endangered species at the Potter Park Zoo through conservation efforts. The zoo will upgrade the historic Feline/Primate Building with $10 million in state funding. Rachel Marlatt with Potter Park Zoo, ties in International Tiger Day on July 29 (celebrating at the zoo on July 27) with the building upgrade and how it will improve the space for big cats.
