WACO, Texas (KWTX) - For many children the cafeteria is a place to relax and refuel as they prepare to learn in class during the school year, and now that summer is here, Central Texas school districts have set up feeding locations to make sure their students stay healthy ahead of the new school year.
Former Texas State Representative Jim Pitts Passes Away at 73
DALLAS, Texas — Former Texas State Representative Jim Pitts passed away shortly before midnight on July 20, 2024, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, surrounded by his loved ones. Jim Pitts dedicated his life to public service, representing House District 10 in the Texas House of Representatives from 1993 to 2015. His district comprised Ellis County, Hill County, and a portion of Henderson County. During his tenure, he served as Chairman of Appropriations from 2005 to 2007 and from 2009 to 2015. Representative Pitts was known for his commitment to education, fiscal responsibility, and advocating for the needs of his constituents.

Texas announces tax-free weekend for back-to-school shopping
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar has announced the annual Sales Tax Holiday, set for August 9-11, 2024, allowing shoppers to purchase qualifying items tax-free. The tax-free weekend applies to most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks sold for less than $100, whether bought in-store or online from Texas-based sellers. "The Comptroller encourages all taxpayers to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases," stated the press release.
