    Child, 11, ignites fireworks that burn 2 homes on Long Island; man arrested: NCPD

    LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man was arrested after allegedly giving an 11-year-old child fireworks, which caught two Long Island houses on fire when they were ignited on the Fourth of July, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

    Karamjit Singh, 33, allegedly told the child to set off the fireworks on Red Maple Drive North in Levittown around 8:50 a.m., per police. The firework malfunctioned, striking a detached shed and setting it ablaze, according to authorities.

    The fire spread to Singh’s home and a neighboring home, per police. The Wantagh Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames.

    A tenant living on the second floor of Singh’s house was displaced, according to authorities. Both homes were extensively damaged, but no one was injured.

    Singh was charged with arson, reckless endangerment, unlawfully selling fireworks to a person under 18, unlawfully possessing use or explode fireowrks and endangering the welfare of a child. The 11-year-old was released to a family member, according to authorities.
