NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Long Island man was arrested on Thursday after allegedly allowing a child to ignite fireworks that set two houses on fire, according to Nassau County police.

Karamjit Singh, 33, was arrested at around 8:50 a.m. in Levittown after detectives found that he "supplied an 11-year-old juvenile with fireworks" and instructed the child to light them up.

Officers responded to Singh’s residence on Red Maple Drive North after receiving reports of a fire.

The firework set off by the 11-year-old malfunctioned and caused a shed in the yard to catch fire, according to police. The flames then spread to Singh’s house and a neighboring home.

The Wantagh Fire Department arrived at the scene and put out the fire.

Singh’s house also had a tenant on the second floor who was displaced due to the fire.

Both homes were badly damaged, but no one was injured, police said.

Singh was arrested without incident and the 11-year-old child was released to a family member.

Singh is charged with two counts of arson, reckless endangerment, unlawfully selling fireworks to a person under 18, unlawfully possessing, using, or exploding fireworks, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He will be arraigned on Friday.
