Wildfires around Helena slow down; deceased pilot honored
There are now three active wildfires burning in Lewis and Clark County. The National Weather Service forecast for Wednesday is widespread haze before noon, then widespread haze after 3 p.m. It will be sunny and hot, with a high near 96. The wind will be light and variable becoming northeast 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.
Horse Gulch fire now at 13,442 acres, 10% containment
The Horse Gulch fire northeast of Helena grew to 13,442 acres Tuesday, with officials reporting it is now 10% contained. According to the state website mtfireinfo.org, the cost of fighting the human-caused fire, which has been burning since July 9, is $8.1 million so far, with a projected final cost of $25 million.
