(Lewis) The deer population in western Iowa is decreasing. A series of public meetings are scheduled next week to address the decline. John Lorenzen, from the DNR Office in Lewis, says the series of sessions is called the “Western Iowa Deer Initiative.”

The deer harvest figures showed a significant decline in 2023 compared to the previous year. For instance, Pottawattamie County declined 33 percent, Cass County 26 percent, Adair County 20 percent, Montgomery County 29 percent, and Adams County 21 percent.

All meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There is a meeting in Atlantic on July 8 at the Venue; Denison on July 9 at the Yellow Smoke Park Lookout Shelter; Council Bluffs on July 10 at Bass Pro; and Shenandoah on July 11 at the Public Library.
