GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman is facing charges after she hit a vehicle at Walmart and then drove around the parking lot.

On July 7, 2024, at approximately 5:10 p.m., the Lewisburg Police Department received a call from the Greenbrier County Dispatch regarding a hit-and-run incident at the Walmart at 1976 Jefferson Street North in Lewisburg, WV.

Greenbrier County Dispatch informed the Lewisburg Police Department that a Silver Jeep had collided with another vehicle and left the scene, driving around the Walmart parking lot. Cpl. Simmons, Patrolman Cosby, and another officer arrived at the scene.

Patrolman Cosby spoke with the victim, while Cpl. Simmons and the other officer spoke with the offender, who was later identified as Mrs. Alexis Johnson. Mrs. Johnson admitted to driving the Silver Jeep that hit the red Mustang and then fled the scene. Upon inspecting Mrs. Johnson’s vehicle, it was observed that the front bumper was completely torn off, the front passenger tire was flat, and there were scrape marks along the back passenger side of the vehicle. Cpl. Simmons conducted a field sobriety test on Mrs. Johnson.

The test revealed signs of impairment, including horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) in both eyes, constricted pupils, lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and onset of nystagmus prior to reaching 45 degrees. Mrs. Johnson also displayed body tremors and eyelid tremors, indicating further impairment.

As a result of the field sobriety test, Mrs. Johnson was arrested for DUI. Additionally, no proof of insurance was found in Mrs. Johnson’s vehicle. A criminal history search revealed that Mrs. Johnson’s West Virginia driver’s license was revoked due to a previous DUI on 07/29/2019.

Mrs. Johnson admitted to driving from Frankford, West Virginia, into the city limits of Lewisburg, where the incident occurred at the Walmart parking lot.
