Francis Hunter of Beckley, one of the American tennis players at the Olympic games being held in Paris, was released from the hospital at that place last Friday after a severe case of septic poisoning. The disease resulted from a cut sustained in a fall during the Wimbledon tournament. For a time it was thought amputation of the lower arm would be necessary, but the arm was finally saved. A new locomotive, just tried in the East, is going to surprise a good many. It is a whole power plant in itself, burns oil, changes that into electricity, and runs by electricity. Plans Objected

Many citizens in Lewisburg were upset early this week over reported plans to install pedestrian control lights at three locations downtown. Petitions to stop the construction were circulated at several retail locations and one or more militants used spray paint to vent their feelings against proposed poles which would be used to mount the signals. Mrs. Jane McLaughlin, who is heading a citizens group to prevent the project, told the Daily News this morning, “We don’t need our sidewalks cluttered up any more than they are now and we are investigating the possibility of an injunction to stop this work.”

    Riverbend Continues Work At Carnegie

In 1997, Riverbend Nursery, owned and operated by Josh and Judy Polan, added the finished touches to the restoration project at Carnegie Hall. Josh designed the landscaping plan, donated the plants and materials, and organized the planting of the new garden walkway surrounding the Church Street entrance to the building. The beautiful garden is thriving because Polan continues to donate his time, expertise and materials to the project.
